NPG.PNGA New Type of Interference

NPG.PNG. Stockholm, 2024. Part 1.
Holografiska presents NPG.PNG. In collaboration with the London National Portrait Gallery and maybe Banksy. But surely Lisa Giomar Hydén, Michael Elliott & Bandit the Fox.

0. Letter to National Portrait Gallery
A package was sent to Michael Elliott, Interim Director at the London National Portrait Gallery. The package together with a letter was presumably sent from Lisa Giomar Hydén, Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska in Stockholm with a peculiar request.

In the signature, “Gioma” is missing its (r) for a specific reason...

1. Letter to Fotografiska Stockholm
A letter was sent to Lisa Giomar Hydén. The letter features a single character “r.” and other graphical objects. The character “r” was deliberatly ommited from the first letter sent to Michael Elliott. The letter was presumably sent by Bandit the Fox.

Letter on the left was sent to Michael Elliott while the one on the right to Lisa Giomar Hydén.

2. The holographic stickers
3 types of holographic stickers were used. Any attempt to remove the stickers will result in a permanent VOID mark. If such thing were to happen, the artwork will be rendered null and VOID and will not be authenticated under these conditions, as it was stated explicitly in the communication.

3. The letters & envelopes
The enigmatic artwork titled “NPG.PNG” is intriguingly sealed within four nested envelopes, with Envelope 1 being the innermost one containing the piece.

Holographic stickers are also found inside the envelope.
Holographic stickers are also found inside the envelope.

4. The artwork
The artwork is sealed within 4 envelopes and is never to be revealed. All we know is that it is a drawing, signed and dated on the backside. The back of the card has been blacked out digitally so as not to reveal any clue.

5. Mailbox XL
The package containing the artwork and the letter was sent to Michael Elliott in London.

6. The campaign
The campaign was focused in the area surrounding Fotografiska.  It consisted of  A4 posters, 50x50cm, 50x70 & 70x70 stencils. The campaign is almost complete, but there are still a few targets left.

Stencil, spraypaint on MDF, 54x54cm.
We try to blend as much as we can.
Poker face.

7. JCDEKO Part 1
We came across this destroyed JCDecaux display and saw an opportunity there.

7. JCDEKO Part 2
The stencil was swiftly destroyed & trashed so we doubled down.

8. Disobey
The original Obey the Giant  poster used in Fotografiska’s marketing campaign was entirely covered in white paint.

9. Hand of Doom 1 – Gamla Stan
Based on a previous animation featuring a hand with a pen drawing a line using Perlin noise,  we followed up with a real hand with a spraycan drawing a line.

10. Hand of Doom 2 – Slussen
Based on a previous animation featuring a knife drawing a line using Perlin noise,  we followed up with a real hand with a knife cutting a hole.

Lorem Ipsum...

11. The animations
A number of animations were produced for this project which you can see on Ginger’s platform Instagram.
